BHPB Pilbara Accommodation Programme Newman
Client BHP Billiton Iron Ore Pty Ltd
Year 2011 - 2012
Our Role Development Manager, Project Manager and Feasibility study
Insight were engaged by BHP Billiton’s WA Iron Ore business to assist with it’s Pilbara Accommodation Programme. Our client was embarking on a large-scale capital expansion programme to increase it’s production from it’s Pilbara operations by 2017. To enable the planned ramp up in production, the development of substantial new workforce accommodation was required.
Insight carried out a development strategy to replace existing sub-standard housing with new Manager Standard housing in the Newman townsite.
Locations were identified and a parcel of land was consolidated and housing demolished. The site was redeveloped with 4 new Manager dwellings along with a further 3 on single lots nearby. Insight created new Housing Design Guidelines for Manager Standard housing and executed the Procurement Strategy resulting in the appointment of a builder to undertake the works Development Programme build.
Newman Redevelopment Programme
Insight undertook a redevelopment strategy to replace existing sub-standard housing with new dwellings. The strategy involved the identification and demolition of 25 existing dwellings. The sites were consolidated to improve yield resulting in the construction of 43 new 3, 4 & 5 bed houses on 15 sites throughout Newman.
Insight carried out due diligence; co-ordinated dilapidation surveys and contamination reports; feasibility studies and a procurement strategy, resulting in the appointment of a builder in late 2012.
