EQUINIX PE3 DATA CENTRE

Client: Equinix Australia National Pty Ltd

Year: 2020-2022 (completed 2022)

Value: $80M AUD (total project cost)

Our Role: Project Manager and Superintendent

Equinix is the world’s leading digital infrastructure company, who interconnects industry-leading organisations in finance, manufacturing, mobility, transportation, government, healthcare and education across 220+ data centres in 60+ markets across the world.

Equinix engaged Insight Project Services (IPS) to manage the design and construction of the brand new data centre facility PE3, on the brownfields site adjacent to the existing Equinix data centre PE2, in Shenton Park. IPS provided the overall project leadership as the Project Construction Manager and Superintendent for the design and construction of PE3, including for the equipment supply, installation, commissioning and handover of the new state of the art data centre.

The data centre consists of a total 12,000m2 of GFA, with 1720 cabinets across 6 interconnected data halls, HVAC plant and equipment capable of maintaining an operating temperature delta of 2oC within the data hall, emergency power generation and UPS plant including the HV&LV switchgear, SCADA/BMS control systems and Security/CCTV systems.

The Project also included construction of front and back of house administration facilities, consisting of operations offices, security facilities, loading docks and goods handling, meeting and conference rooms, bathrooms and amenities, and a link bridge to the existing PE2 facility.

The contractor procurement for the PE3 project was administered under a D&C GMP agreement. The design, manufacture and supply of all major plant and equipment was direct with Equinix, and IPS were responsible for the delivery and free issue of all equipment to the contractor to meet the project timeframes.

IPS provided the local marketplace understanding and construction industry advice to Equinix in all aspects of the projects including the engagement of specialist commissioning consultants, design consultants and architects.
