ADVENTURE WORLD - KRAKEN FUNNEL SLIDE

Client: Adventure World

Year: 2014 - 2015

Value: $7M

Our Role: Project Manager

Adventure World (AW) engaged Insight Project Services (Insight) to orchestrate the procurement of a D&C contract for the design and construction of the new Proslide Tornado 60 funnel slide in Perth WA, aka “The Kraken”.

The Kraken is the world’s tallest, steepest and longest funnel waterslide. The waterslide is a uniquely tailored Proslide Tornado 60 design out of Canada and drops 30 metres along 260 metres of spinning and twisting slide. The four-person raft must first negotiate over 150 metres of almost pitch black twists and turns, including a heart-pounding drop and 360 degree twist, before dropping 8 metres almost vertically into the massive 60 foot funnel, which is about the height of a six storey building.

It’s the second time in three years that AW has invested in a world-class attraction and IPS have worked on both.

The project required close coordination with Proslide, a specialist theming architect and the pool D&C Contractor. There were obstacles to overcome with piled foundations being installed on a very steep incline with significant site works required to provide access for the piling rig. The local project team proposed alternative structural solutions for the support of the slide to reduce the number of columns and foundations, all with great success.

The project ran on time and was opened for the 2015 summer season.
